Bresku háðfuglarnir Steve Coogan og Rob Brydon þvældust um breska veitingastaði í The Trip og endurtaka nú leikinn á því að feta í fótspor Byron lávarðs og ferðast á milli veitingastaða á Ítalíu. Maturinn sem þeir borða fellur þó fljótlega í skuggann af samskiptum leikaranna tveggja, sem eru hræddir við að eldast og að fá ekki nógu góð hlutverk. Svo fer Steve að hafa áhyggjur af því að Rob geti hreinlega ekki lengur tjáð sig nema í gegnum það að herma eftir öðrum, frægari leikurum á borð við Michael Caine og Hugh Grant.

• Steve Coogan  varð stjarna í Bretlandi með titilhlutverkinu í sjónvarpsþáttunum um Alan Partridge. British comics Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon travelled the restaurants of England in The Trip and now repeat that adventure in Italy. But while the food is the reason for the trip their relationship – and relationships with the women in their life – soon come to the fore and we witness their hang-ups about reaching middle age and hoping the film roles won’t dry up. Adding to that Steve starts worrying that Rob can’t communicate anymore unless it’s through mimicking the voices of other, better known, actors such as Hugh Grant and Michael Caine.

Michael Winterbottom is perhaps one of the most productive British filmmakers of today, having directed 24 feature films over the last 20 years. Among them are films such as 24-Hour Party People, The Road to Guantanamo, Welcome to Sarajevo, Code 46 og A Mighty Heart.

•  Both The Trip and The Trip to Italy originated as mini-series for the BBC before they were edited into movie length.
• Steve Coogan became a star in his native UK by playing the title character in the TV series Alan Partridge. It wasn‘t until he worked with Winterbottom on 24-Hour Party People that he achieved world fame. Since then they‘ve also worked together on Tristram Shandy og The Look of Love. Recently he wrote, produced and starred in Best Picture Oscar nominee Philomena.
• Rob Brydon  has worked extensively with Steve Coogan and Winterbottom, appearing in both 24-Hour Party People and Tristram Shandy. But he‘s perhaps better known for his TV career, but he‘s worked as host on numerous BBC  shows.
