Walkers er heimildamynd sem tekur fyrir þrjár afturgöngur úr íslenskum þjóðsögum. Í myndinni er rætt við þrjá fræðimenn sem ræða bæði það sem sögurnar eiga sameiginlegt hver með annarri og einnig sérkenni þeirra. Þessir draugar skilja ekki við líkama sinn eftir dauða, en það var hefð í íslenskum draugasögum áður en þær urðu fyrir áhrifum frá Evrópu, þar sem draugar voru ósnertanleg fyrirbæri eða andar. Milli þess að fræðimenn fjalla um sögurnar eru brot úr sögum drauganna sýnd, leikin af leikurum sem búsettir eru við heimaslóðir drauganna. Draugarnir sem teknir eru fyrir í myndinni eru Höfðabrekku-Jóka, Hesteyrar-Krita og loðni maðurinn frá Skarði.

Walkers is a documentary about three ghosts found in Icelandic books of legends and folklore. Three scholars and academics discuss these ghosts in the film and talk about how they differ from ghosts elsewhere in the universe as well as what makes them unique. The scholar’s main emphasis is on the embodiment of the ghosts, the fact that they do not part with their body after death and walk amongst the living, as their Icelandic name “afturgöngur” (Eng. those who walk again) indicates. This varies from the European ghosts who become untouchable beings or spirits after death. This film was made by an international group of young and upcoming film makers and local actors. The ghosts that appear in the film are Jóka of Höfðabrekka, Krita of Hesteyri and the hairy man from Skarði.

The project’s main supporter was The Youth in Action Program as well as the Cultural Council of Southern Iceland. The film was also crowd funded on the website www.karolinafund.com and numerous individuals supported the production by pre-ordering the film before it had been finalized. The participants of the youth group are: Esther Ýr Þorvaldsdóttir, Anna Margrét Hrólfsdóttir, Anton Smári Gunnarsson, Axel Van Der Waal, Bragi Brynjarsson, Clémentine Louison Celeste Dehaynin, Diego Armando Arias-Hernándes, Gunnhildur Helga Katrínardóttir, Logi Ingimarsson, Manon Claire Huguette Petit and Perrine Sophie Charlotte Marie Wanegue.
