Marco Bellocchio stundaði nám við Dramatic Art Academy í Mílanó og Experimental Cinema Centre. Hann hefur leikstýrt fjölda leikþátta, heimildamynda og stuttmynda fyrir bæði sjónvarp og kvikmyndir þar sem viðfangsefnin hafa verið gífurlega fjölbreytt. Verk hans eru áberandi og persónuleg, endurspegla skoðanir hans og listrænan metnað. Á ferli sínum hefur Bellocchio efast um ríkjandi hugmyndafræði og þannig hefur hann fest sig í sessi sem einn af mikilvægustu kvikmyndagerðarmönnum Ítalíu.
Ítalski leikstjórinn verður heiðursgestur á Evrópsku kvikmyndaverðlaununum og hlýtur verðlaun fyrir nýsköpun í sögufrásögn fyrir sjónvarpsseríuna, Marco Bellocchio tekur við verðlaunum við hátíðlega athöfn sem afhent verða þann 10. desember í Hörpu.

On the occasion of the 35th European Film Awards on 10 December in Reykjavik, the European Film Academy is honouring the Italian veteran auteur director Marco Bellocchio with the Award for European Innovative Storytelling for his outstanding mini-series EXTERIOR NIGHT, he will be presented with the award during the awards ceremony in Harpa on December 10th.
Ísold Uggadóttir is an Icelandic film director and screenwriter, will be the Q&A coordinator. She is known for her feature film debut in And Breathe Normally, for which she won the World Cinema Dramatic Directing Award at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
Marco Bellocchio studied at the Dramatic Art Academy of Milan and the Experimental Cinema Centre. The remarkable career of Bellocchio, director of an impressive number of features, documentaries, and shorts for both television and cinema, has encompassed a wide range of genres and subjects. Yet his work remains distinctive and personal, reflecting his uncompromising views and artistic ambition. During his career Bellocchio has questioned prevailing ideologies, confronted the church and the radical left in equal measure, and challenged notions of morality and family in a manner that has established him as one of Italy’s most important filmmakers.
